An ignition interlock is a device that keeps a vehicle from starting if the driver has alcohol on their breath.
How does it work?
- The driver blows into the handheld breath alcohol tester, which is connected to the vehicle starter
- An alcohol-specific sensor analyzes a breath sample and provides a reading of how much alcohol is on the driver’s breath
- If there is no alcohol present in the breath sample, the engine can be started
Why do I need it?
Having an ignition interlock installed in your vehicle allows you to continue driving after getting a DUI.
