ACS – VOLVO TRUCKS

Alcohol Countermeasure Systems Corp (ACS) will be the first manufacturer of alcohol interlocks to supply their products directly to the assembly line of a major automaker. Unlike other alcohol interlocks, the Volvo ALCOGUARD will be installed on the vehicle assembly line. Based on the successful launch of the ALCOLOCK V3, Volvo ALCOLOCK was customized to integrate seamlessly into the panel truck. Moreover, since it’s an original equipment manufacturer, the Volvo ALOCLOCK has full assurance backed by Volvo itself. This is the first product of its kind to have such a guarantee and is a testament to the quality and engineering that form the Volvo ALCOLOCK. To ensure that quality standards are maintained, ACS initiated the process for certification by internationally recognized automotive standard TS16949, and ISO14001 environmental certification. These certifications must be attained in 2007 and will be a key to the current ISO9001 certification in 2006. Most units will be ready for the assembly line in Sweden; however, some time from now, the Volvo ALCOLOCK will also be available in Denmark, Norway and Finland. Until today, truck owners installed separate alcohol interlocks from Volvo. Bill Burger, Technical Director of ACS, is pleased that his last two years working with Volvo resulted in success. “We were already convinced that this technology is a viable option to reduce the number of fatalities resulting from traffic accidents caused by alcohol. It was only a matter of time before a major auto manufacturer decided to offer this machine as an original factory item. Given Volvo’s reputation as a leader in safety, I’m quite proud that ACS has been chosen as the supplier of this system.” The ALCOLOCK manufacturing is expected to begin in November 2007 and the system will be available through the Volvo Truck dealers in Sweden.
